Résumé
Your résumé shows a prospective employer your strengths – education, employment, skills, and interests. It should be current, and modified for the specific job.
Using a template, boilerplate, or sending the same résumé to fifty employers for different jobs is not a smart way to present yourself.
The reading in chapter 10 offers some examples of résumés. The links in the resources section above offer some excellent résumé tips, and structure samples.
Structure One-page Suggested sections (no “objective” please!!! — see resource links above) Contact information Education Employment Volunteer activities Organizations Interests Skills Licenses/Certificates
Content The résumé should be your own work! Using Career Services, the Writing Center, or friends for assistance, means that you are not completing the work on your own, and thus the assignment is not acceptable.
Tip: Your résumé should not contain too much information (crammed into one-page, using 8-point font), nor too little information (less than half a page, using 14-point font). The former makes you look “too busy,” while the latter makes you seem “unemployable.”
Cautions
Points will be deducted for: More than a one-page résumé [minus 10 points] Inclusion of references [minus 10 points]
