Malaria Microbiology Pathogens and Disease Research Paper

Lecture Writing Project –
MICROBIAL PATHOGENS & DISEASE
The purpose of this project is to write a research paper about a microbial pathogenand the disease it produces in humans. The paper must be typed using 12pt font, double spaced, one inch page margins and be at least 6 pages long.
The Literature cited (a minimum often references for the paper) should be recent, in alphabetical order, and at least 4 referencesneed to be from scientific publications. The entire assignment is worth 50 pt.You may select any pathogen or disease from the list provided below, or of your own choice NOTE: the entire project will be on a single organism/disease. You will research the literature regarding your specific pathogen/disease and write about your findings. The research paper wil consist of 5 parts.
(1) The
first part will need to include information about the pathogen including (a) morphological characteristics, (b) environmental conditions required for growth, and (d) genetics/pathogenic mechanisms.
(2) The second partwill need to include information about the disease caused, including a (a)brief history, (b) clinical symptoms/virulence/progression of the disease state, and (c) diagnostic procedures (including how the pathogen is identified in the clinical laboratory).
(3) The third part will need to discuss epidemiology of the disease. This includes (a) stating which individuals are at risk, (b) transmission mechanism(s), and (c) human behavior(s) involved in its spread.
(4) The fourth part will need to discuss how to control the pathogen/disease that includes (a) methods of prevention, (b) infection control and (3) clinical treatment.
(5) The final part includes a discussion of your own thoughts related to the pathogen, spread of the disease, and possible avenues of research that might further enhance our understanding of the organism or disease.
(NOTE: Each part must be at least one page long. Each part is worth 10pts.)]

I. Length
a. Minimum of 8 pages of text.
b. Pictures, charts, etc. can be added but should be placed at the end of the paper and do NOT count towards the 8 page minimum
II. Style

b. 1 inch margins
c. Double-spaced
III.Citations
a. APA format
i. In-text citations
1. Follow APA rules
ii. Bibliography
1. Cited documents are to be listed in the bibliography at the end of the paper in alphabetical order by author’s last name.
