Essay 2: Lucy
Who is “Lucy” and why is she important to the study of Anthropology? (20 points)
What factors were critical in the evolution of bipedalism? (20 points)
How does she illustrate the close relationship between biology and culture? How does the discovery of Lucy’s “baby” contribute to the understanding of this relationship? (20 points)
How does ‘Lucy’ relate to the finding of Turkana/Nariokotome boy? What are the similarities and differences between the two? (20 points)
How do these findings contribute to our understanding of human evolution? (20 points)
Remember, all work must be submitted as a formal paper with a title, an introduction, paragraph for each topic, a conclusion and a bibliography which must include the web address for each cite accessed.
No more than two short quotes may be used. Short means less than one line.
Each essay should be between 3-5 full pages of information. A bibliography with at least three references, in addition to your text, should be included at the end of the paper. Each essay requires at least one book reference other than your text. This must be an actual book. An online book is considered an online source. I suggest going to the library and searching the encyclopedias in the reference section. Ten points will be deducted for each essay missing the required book source. Papers submitted without references will NOT be graded. Ten points will be deducted for each use of a .com or .net site. Blogs are never considered references.
